Les Auvergnats de Grande-Bretagne, the oldest of the French regional associations in the UK, was founded in 1974 and was modeled on various Parisian groups that existed at the beginning of the 20th century.

The founders were Pierre Vermenouze (great nephew of the celebrated Auvergnat poet Arsène Vermenouze), Jean Barrier and Michel Place, and of course, Antoinette Chambeyron who continues to play an active role as Honorary President.

Over the subsequent 39 years the members have met for innumerable soirées, dances and dinners, and taken part in hundreds of walks, visits and days out to explore their adopted country.
